San Diego- San Diego police officers in foot pursuit of three men report being fired upon after chasing the suspects at over one-hundred miles per hour on a local freeway. It all began after a detective in an unmarked vehicle witnessed a drive-by shooting in Linda Vista. The detective followed the suspects until sufficient marked police units, a K-9 unit and a helicopter could get into place . Marked units initiated a stop on the vehicle at it exited northbound I-15 at Mira Mesa Blvd. The vehicle sped away from police and reentered southbound I-15 leading officers on a high speed chase down the 15. A traffic unit deployed a spike stip near Balboa Avenue, disabling the suspects car. The vehicle then exited at Aero Drive continuing back on to the freeway where they crashed. The four males in the car then fled on foot off the freeway and towards the Wal Mart with officers giving chase. Officers then reported shots were fired at them. Shortly thereafter all of the men were taken into custody without further incident. Police recovered a handgun in the brush along the freeway. The twenty-three year old man that was shot in the chest at the corner of Linda Vista & Genesee is expected to survive.
