Vehicle Rear-Ends Fire Truck on Freeway

COLLEGE AREA- A woman driving a Volvo crashed into the rear-end of a fire truck that was stopped on eastbound interstate 8 just west of 70th Street. The accident occurred around 11PM as the fire rig was extinguishing a vehicle fire on the freeway. The driver along with two children were transported to local hospitals after having to be rescued from the crash. The CHP is investigating.

Two Teens Killed in Valencia Park

VALENCIA PARK Police are investigating the killing of two teenagers at the corner of San Jacinto Drive and Groveland Police arrived to a report of a shooting at 12:55am to find two victims down at that location. Paramedics pronounced a 17-year old female dead and transported a 15-year old male to Mercy Hospital. The 15-year old died about an hour later. According to homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney a preliminary investigation has revealed that the victims attended a party several blocks away. Three vehicles containing suspected gang members showed up at the party and displayed handguns at the partygoers while shouting gang challenges before driving away. Several minutes later a group of people, including the two victims, started to leave the party. As they walked north on San Jacinto, two males walked up to the group and started shooting at them. Two Dead, Five Injured in Crash

BALBOA PARK A traffic accident in Balboa Park claimed the life of two people and sent six others to local hospitals. The crash occurred on Florida Drive just south of the Navy Hospital entrance just before midnight. According to a Traffic Detective, the vehicle was occupied by eight people, including seven minors. He stated it appears that the vehicle was traveling at about double the posted speed limit when the driver lost control, hit the center median, went across to the opposite curb where it rolled over several times. Several occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The driver, an adult, was pronounced dead in the vehicle as was a 15-year old passenger, who was ejected.

Fatal Crash Kills Woman on I-805

CLAIREMONT A woman was killed on 805 just south of the Clairemont Mesa Blvd onramp this evening. The vehicle was occupied by a man, woman and an infant. The woman reached into the back to attend to the child when she inadvertently bumped the driver, who lost control of the vehicle. The car then crashed head-on into a large tree on the shoulder, killing the woman. The driver and infant were transported the hospital with minor injuries. The woman was not wearing her seatbelt according to CHP

Homicide at SDSU

SDSU One man was killed and three others sent to the hospital after a fight on 55th Street near the Cox Arena. According to police the incident occurred at around 2 AM. Initial reports indicate two groups of four males got into an altercation on the street in front of the gymnasium. The altercation went from verbal to physical and someone in one group stabbed all four men in the other group. One man died of knife wounds at the scene and the other three were taken to the hospital. I-8 Crash Kills Man

MISSION VALLEY A man was killed when his vehicle went off an embankment from the transition ramp from westbound interstate 8 to southbound route 163. The man's car careened over the side, striking a tree. The victim died as a result of his injuries despite an extensive rescue effort. CHP is investigating reports that another vehicle may have been involved in the accident.

Late Night Canyon Fire City Heights

CITY HEIGHTS A small brush fire erupted in a canyon along the 3000 block of Euclid Avenue early Sunday morning. The fire broke out just after 2AM. Fire crews made quick work of the fire, keeping it to less than an acre.

SAN DIEGO HARBOR One man is dead after an altercation with Harbor Police. According to police, a charter boat cursing the bay reported a man overboard to the US Coast Guard. A responding Harbor Police boat arrived at scene and found a man in the water. The man boarded the police boat and began fighting with officers according to the press release. One of the two officers was knocked to the deck of the boat, injured. The suspect took the officer's taser and struck him violently in the fact with it. Police say that the suspect then tried to take the officers firearm. The second officer shot the suspect one time in the torso to stop the assault. The boat then went to a dock to meet paramedics. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. Harbor Police, San Diego Police and the District Attorney's office are investigating the incident.

Head On Sends five to hospital

Talmage A suspected drunken driver send five people, including himself, to area hospitals after veering across the divider on Fairmount Avenue near Aldine Drive. According to police, the lone male occupant of one vehicle crossed the median and crashed into a SUV carrying five people. The accident occurred just after 1 AM and required a vehicle rescue response from the fire department to extricate many of the occupants. San Diego Police traffic units continue to investigate the incident.

Pursuit Crash Ends With Serious Injuries

SPRING VALLEY At about 1:30AM a Sheriff deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of driving under the influence on SR-54 near Briarwood when the driver took off, leading officers on a pursuit that ended at Jamacha Blvd and 125 when the vehicle lost control at the top of the off ramp and careened over the side of an embankment, landing on its top. Fire rescue crews responded and had to extricate both occupants, a male and female. The female was transported by Mercy Air and the male by ground ambulance.

WEBSTER Police are investigating a mysterious shooting that killed a 58 year man in the 4700 block of A street Friday evening. Police went to the area investigating a report of a gunshots and found the man inside a garage that had been converted to an apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man killed in freeway accident

MIRAMAR A man was killed Saturday morning when he apparently lost control of his vehicle while southbound on interstate 15 at Miramar Way. Witnesses told CHP that the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 mph prior to losing control. The vehicle continued up the off ramp, rolling several times and crashing into a light standard. The driver was declared dead at the scene.

Officer Shoots, Kills, Robbery Suspect

GOLDEN HILL A San Diego Police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him. The incident occurred about 10:30pm on Friday night near 25th and A Streets. According to a press release, police officers were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery a market in the 1100 block of 25th street. As the officers established a perimeter, a witness pointed out a man who was walking north on 25th street. One officer exited his patrol car and approached the suspect, ordering him to stop. The suspect continued to walk away. At this point the release states the officer was fifteen feet away from the suspect when he abruptly turned around and pointed a handgun at the officer and the officer fired, striking the suspect. The suspect is reportedly a twenty-three year old male who died at the hospital several hours later. Homicide detectives were on scene investigating the shooting.

Two Shot at Party in East SD

CITY HEIGHTS A man and a woman were sent to local hospitals after being shot at a party on Estrella Avenue at University Avenue in the early morning hours. According to police, some sort of altercation happened inside the party causing several people to exit the party and begin to fight in the street. At some point shots were fired, hitting two people. Both of the shooting victims' wounds are not considered life threatening.

SANTEE A woman was killed when she apparently lost control of her vehicle while traveling east on SR-52, near the summit at Mission Trails Regional Park. According to CHP Sgt. Tres Paulette there were no witnesses to the crash and little is known about what happened. The woman's SUV drove up the embankment, rolled over one or more times and ejecting her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. San Diego Fire's Copter-1 was dispatched to search the brush near the crash to determine if any passengers were ejected, however none were found..

Stolen car chase, crash

EL CAJON According to El Cajon Police Lt. Jim Redman, a patrol sergeant spotted a stolen Honda Prelude in the are of Lincoln and Lexington. He lost sight of the vehicle and officers began to search the area. The car was spotted by another officer, but before he could begin a traffic stop, the driver of the Honda sped off. As the officer was attempting to catch up to the Honda, it's driver ran a stop sign at Camden and Avocado, striking a Toyota Camry. Pipe-bomb set off at Federal Courthouse

DOWNTOWN According to San Diego Police, at 1:41AM officers responded to the Federal Courthouse in the 900 block of Front St to check a report of an explosion. Officers arrived to find that the front door had been damaged by an explosive device. The Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) responded followed by various Federal agents to investigate the incident. The device, believed to be a pipe bomb sent shrapnel across Front Street. There were also reports of window damage on the eighth floor of a building across the street. DOWNTOWN A police officer in the mid city area tried to stop a stolen vehicle that was spotted in the 3500 block of Meade Ave around 3:30AM Sunday morning. The driver of the vehicle fled and led police on a chase down local freeways, eventually ending up in downtown. At the southern end of 8th Avenue, just north of PetCo Park, the vehicle failed to turn and crashed between a building and a fence. The occupants were taken into custody without further incident.

Fire Destroys House in Mid City

MID CITY A fire seriously damaged a home in the 3500 block of Wightman Street at around 10PM Saturday night. The residents discovered the fire and were able to get out safely. Police are looking for a woman who they suspect started the fire. Her name is Elizabeth Huff, 41 and she drives a blue 1987 Dodge van with California plate 3DBV559. She has three warrants against her and anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477

Officer Involved Shooting in PB

PACIFIC BEACH According to police a Sergeant was driving eastbound in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue at about 10:30pm when he heard gunfire on the north side of the street. The officer observed two people walking east on the sidewalk and as he turned to stop near them he saw one of the men pass something to the other. The sergeant exited his vehicle in time to see the second man point a handgun down the street. He ordered the man to drop the weapon but he spun around, pointing the gun at the sergeant. The sergeant fired at him and the man dropped his weapon and was taken into custody. In the meantime, the first man walked away and hid in some bushes in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue. He was located by a police canine and arrested. No one was hit by the gunfire. While the first man was outstanding police searched his residence looking for him and removed some weapons from the house.

Carjacking Suspect Dies in Crash

BAY TERRACES One man was killed and another seriously injured while fleeing in the vehicle they allegedly carjacked from a women coming out of a video rental shop According to police, the incident occurred about 11:15pm when the two men were witnessed taking a woman to the ground and stealing her keys. They then fled in her red Ford while the witness flagged down a passing police car. The witness was describing the incident to officers when the Ford when flying past them southbound on Woodman St. Officers radioed the description and started to u-turn to catch up to the suspects. By the time officers caught up to them, they had already crashed into four vehicles at the intersection of Altaview and Woodman. One suspect was killed in the impact and the other was sent to the hospital with serious injuries. A woman in a Mercedes who was passing through the intersection at the time was not injured. The other three vehicles were parked along Woodman at the time of the crash..

Carjack Suspects, Chase, Crash

NORTH PARK A chase of a vehicle stolen in a carjacking earlier in the evening resulted in a crash in the east alley of 4400 Texas St. It all began about 5:30 Friday evening when a woman was parking her 2001 BMW in the 3500 block of Madison Street. Police reported that four males with masks over their faces and armed with various guns surrounded the woman's car, pointed the weapons and ordered her out of the vehicle. She complied with them and they made off with her vehicle. Around 10:30, police officers located the vehicle at 2400 Meade and observed two males get into the car and drive off. Police then tried to stop the vehicle which failed to pull over and a short chase ensued as rain just began to fall. The driver of the stolen BMW crashed in a narrow alleyway on Texas Street and both men fled on foot. Both suspects were located shortly thereafter with the aid of a K-9 dog. One suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment relating to injuries from the crash and a dog bite.
